Johnny King draws his inspiration from the country of his childhood, Congo, where, after having learned to sing (in the church choral), he also makes his first steps on stage. His teenage years which he spends between Congo-Brazzaville and Bucharest, with a stop in Nanterre, lead him to Hip-Hop et au R’n’B. He sets up the group Black Style with whom he releases three albums in Romania.
Thereafter, he returns to his roots of Gospel and Negro-spirituals, which worthy him the success of an album with Bakeluba et tours in Romania and in Eastern Europe. Faithful thanks to these experiences, it is naturally that he comes to Reggae, inspired by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff or also Lucky Dube and Alpha Blondy. As from his arrival in Switzerland, he ensures a “one-man-show” program, Reggae and Afro-blues acoustics in an Irish Pub in Geneva, and he than collaborates as “sinjay” and “MC” with Livity Sound, before meeting the group Askaar Crew at the end of 2003, with whom he releases his first Reggae album, Babylon Invasion.
The first maxi single of his forthcoming album NO MORE STRESS, foreseen for next winter is a product of many collaboration, co-producted by Johnny King; its arrangement is from Paul Egger Mwanga, multiple talented musician, three times nominated best drummer of Central Africa. With its live touch of the greats like Andrew Bassie Campbel and Jimmy Jane, Buta bassie, Astrolab…this album is to be the present result of Johnny King’s musical way, rich of various musical styles and of intercultural messages… a style born from his artistic and psychosocial experiences.
Johnny King is impressive at each of his apparitions as much by his natural musical talent than by his writing, as well as by his interpretation of his songs than by his scenic presence. He is a power of the African nature, an openness of mind towards discovering and sharing. Johnny King speaks firstly about love… his message is focused on openness of mind and the conviction of a well-being, first of all… personal. Johnny King’s show is explosive and always rich of improvised elements… this creates its appeal… these are magic moments…
